Cluster 14 landmarks include the Washington National Cathedral, St. Albans School, Glover-Archbold Park and Whitehaven Park. The Washington National Cathedral brings almost 700,000 worshippers and visitors each year. Officially named the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, the Cathedral has a long and storied history, which includes associations with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Woodrow Wilson and Helen Keller.
St. Albans School, located on the grounds of the National Cathedral, is a long-time member of the community as well. A private school for boys, St. Albans caters to the children of D.C. politicians and high society families. Based on the success of its graduates, the school enjoys an extremely strong reputation. Al Gore, Bill Frist and many other notable personalities are graduates of St. Albans.
One of the stand-out characteristics of D.C. is its concentration of parks. The best known of these is probably Rock Creek Park, a 1,700-acre natural wonderland that runs almost through the middle of the district. Rock Creek is complemented by a number of smaller parks, including Glover-Archbold Park and Whitehaven Park. Glover-Archbold Park is a small nature preserve covering about 180 acres. Whitehaven Park is a wetlands area, home to many plants and a few animals too, including fox and deer.
Of course, the residents of Cathedral Heights, MacClean Gardens and Glover Park, have many recreational opportunities just outside their own neighborhoods. Cluster 14 is about four miles northwest of the National Mall, which contains West Potomac Park, Constitution Gardens, and other museums, monuments and gardens. Throughout D.C., one can also find a variety of fine arts, performing arts, live music – all of which is complemented by a complete array of shopping and dining destinations.
